Owning a Hot Tub in the Dead of Winter

Owning a Hot Tub in the Dead of Winter

Using your hot tub in the wintertime can be tricky. While it is great fun and provides a welcome respite from the doldrums of winter, you want to be mindful of the cold outside.  It sounds like a great way to warm yourself up during the bitter winter temperatures, however, there are also a few precautions one should adhere to.

Below are a few hot tub winter tips that will help you get through this season safe and relaxed.

Hot Tub Tips for Winter

During the winter months, there are always a few interesting questions regarding which is the best spa to use, what to do before getting into the hot tub, and many more. But have no fear, we’re here to help with your hot tubing this winter.

Clear It Off: With snowfall occurring frequently, snow and ice can pile up on your hot tub cover. Leaving the snow on your hot tub can eventually cause your cover to sag or become damaged through the freeze-and-thaw cycle. You should clean off your cover regularly to keep your cover in the best condition all winter long.

Stay Warm: After leaving the hot tub, you will be exposed to the frigid temperatures. As a result, you need to plan ahead. You should have towels and cover-ups ready to put on. Also, slippers and sandals are a must. Most of the time hot tubs are more than a hop away from the door. Using footwear will help you avoid snow, dirt, and debris. Wearing shoes with a good grip on slippery surfaces is highly recommended. If your head gets cold while you are in the hot tub, you can even bring a hat. It can be extremely helpful when you are experiencing the worst of the winter.

Check Your Water Levels and Jets: If water levels get low enough, the pumps and heaters will begin to stop working. You must check the water levels often to avoid the high expenses of trying to remedy a frozen hot tub. You should also be paying attention to your jets. Hot tub jets use outside air to function. Due to the air being cold, your tub has to work harder to regulate the temperature.

Stock Up on Supplies: To have the perfect hot tubing season, you need to stock up on spa chemicals! You should get enough supplies to last the season, especially if you going to make your tub a second home this winter.

Take Shower & Add Lotion: Once you are done with hot tubing, immediately remove your swimsuit and take a warm shower. This will remove any residual spa chemicals. While still damp apply some lotion. Your local pharmacy or beauty supply store has many great products for dry skin in winter.
